Working With Others

It is essential that Withyham Parish Council partner with others both locally and in the wider community who are creating ways to tackle the climate and ecological emergency.

Collaborative Projects

We are partnering with Wild Groombridge on both the Wild Verge Project and the Park Corner Drover’s Pond Habitat Project.

Local Projects

Withyham Parish Council has a Community Grants Scheme, which local organisations can apply to for funding. Many of the projects which are supported by the Grants are helping the local ecology and biodiversity. Some recent Grants have helped:

  • St Michael’s School Withyham to create pathways around the pond area to develop it as an educational area
  • Dorset Arms Angling Club to purchase of a water testing kit to help monitor water quality as part of a National network
  • Wild Groombridge to make and install nest boxes (crafted by Groombridge Mens Shed) in and around Groombridge
  • Friends of the River Medway to buy a water testing kit to monitor water quality in the Upper River Medway as part of the Ripple Effect Project

District and County Councils

Wealden District Council have a Climate Emergency Strategy [external link, opens a new window] and have set up a dedicated Climate Hub on their Let’s Talk Wealden page.

We have had Climate Officers from Wealden District Council come to speak at a Withyham Parish Council Climate and Ecology Advisory Group, and we are in close contact with the Climate Team, to make sure we are supporting and partnering wherever possible.

East Sussex County Council also have Climate Change Commitments [external link, opens a new window].

We will continue to work in partnership wherever possible with both the District and the County Council on climate change and biodiversity related initiatives and projects.

National Association of Local Councils

We also have a representative (Stephanie Chapman – Community Engagement Coordinator) on the National Association of Local Council’s Climate Emergency Network.
